IOA Instrumentation Group
Welcome
The Astronomical Instrumentation Group is currently building two
fast-track NIR instruments which will provide much improved performance
over instruments currently available. COHSI is a spectrograph
for low dispersion spectroscopy of very faint (H~20) galaxies
and offers simultaneous wavelength coverage of J and H in multi-object
and integral field modes. CIRSI is a JH camera which has a mosaic
of 4 10242 HgCdTe arrays for making deep NIR surveys.
As part of our spectroscopy program we are also designing new
spectrographs for 8-m telescopes which employ digital and hardware
OH suppression. A prototype called CIRPASS will be built as an
enhancement to COHSI.
Other projects include the construction of a prototype integral
field fibre feed called SPIRAL for the AAT which operates at optical
wavelengths and a CCD system optimized for the UV.
