The Tarantula Nebula - A template for extragalactic star forming regions

I will summarise results from spectroscopic surveys of the LMC supergiant HII region 30 Dor (Tarantula Nebula): (i) the VLT-FLAMES Tarantula Survey (VFTS) in which the physical, binary and kinematical properties of 800 massive stars have been obtained across 200x200 pc; (ii) VLT/MUSE integral field spectroscopy of the central region NGC2070 covering 30x30 pc; (iii) HST/STIS spatially resolved census of the core R136 ionizing cluster sampling 1x1pc. I will compare our spatially resolved stellar census with the integrated properties of the giant HII region and cluster - as would be witnessed if viewed from Mpc distances, relevant to determinations of properties of extragalactic star-forming regions. Similarities with green pea galaxies will also be noted.
