The Square kilometre Array (SKA) will be a transformational
science instrument delivering two orders of magnitude improvement in
sensitivity over existing facilities and a mapping speed approaching a
million times faster. In this talk I will start by discussing some of the
key science which is driving the design of the SKA and also give an update
on the project status. I will then consider how this science is driving th
overall design of the instrument and briefly discuss some of the technical
work we are doing here in Cambridge to make the SKA a reality.
