To mark 100 years since the death of Sir Robert Stawell Ball, the IoA Library will be mounting a historical display of books and pictures at the IoA Open Afternoon on Saturday 23rd March. The Display will run from 2.30-6.30pm on this day only!
Sir Robert Stawell Ball (1840-1913) was Director of the Cambridge Observatory from 1892-1913 and was a famous populariser of astronomy as well as making serious progress in astronomy and mathematics. His varied life encompassed Birr Castle, Dublin Zoo, Irish light-houses and the theory of screws!
