TDE17: Piercing the sphere of influence

11 September 2017 - 15 September 2017

Scientific Rationale

The recent advent of numerous wide field transient surveys has led to a large increase in the discovery of tidal disruption events (TDEs). In addition to aiding the discovery of a whole new class of variable astronomical event, temporal and spectra information probes the fundamental physics of the underlying phenomena. The proposed conference would be focused on issues related to the physics and discovery of TDEs.  The spirit is to +anticipate some of the discoveries by coupling  surveys with innovative exploration strategies and discuss how novel theoretical work might open new windows onto the nature of TDEs.

The TDE workshop sessions will run from Monday morning to Thursday lunch time and will  be followed by a set of more general talks on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. There will be a dinner in honour of Martin  Rees on Thursday (14 September) evening. All workshop participants are welcome to attend the dinner and the more general talks.
