Discs, Lines and Hysteresis in X-ray binaries

Robert Dunn, University of Southampton

We present the results of our studies into hysteresis in X-ray binaries using 14Ms of data from the RXTE satellite. We will present results from our investigation the outbursts of GX 339-4 and also present preliminary results from a population study of X-ray binaries. These analyses use the same data reduction scheme throughout and concentrate on the changes of the disc and iron line during the outbursts of the binaries.
