The XMMSSC Imaging Programme has been obtaining optical/infrared photometry and colours for the X-ray sources detected in the XMM-Newton Serendipitous Survey for a large number of XMM fields. Its aims are to Photometric identification of >10,000 XMM sources Obtain optical counterparts for spectrospcopic identification Provide the data for public use IoA Cambridge is the main institute responsible for the imaging programme within the XMMSSC XID project.
