Period One: August 1998 to January 2001

As a result of the announcement of opportunity, some twenty proposals were submitted for consideration in Period One.

The ING's Joint Steering Committee (JSC) delegated the assessment and peer review of these programmes to the ING Survey Review Panel (ISRP)

The ISRP reported to the May 1998 meeting of the JSC and recommended that five weeks of time be devoted to survey programmes in semester 98B and six weeks in semester 99A.

The recommended programmes for the year August 1998 to July 1999 (subsequently extended upon review to Jan 2001) were:

• The INT Wide Angle Survey: [WWW]
  • PI: Dr R G McMahon (rgm@ast.cam.ac.uk )
    • 3 weeks in semester 98B, 99B, 00B
    • 4 weeks in semester 99A, 00A
  • the additional time in semster 99A/00A is to enable elements of two further programmes to be carried out:
  • Multicoloured large area survey of the Virgo cluster

  • The Millenium Galaxy Catalogue: [WWW]
    • PI: Dr S P Driver ( spd3@st-andrews.ac.uk)
• A Deep UBVRI Imaging Survey with the WFC

    • 1 week per semester in 98B, 99A, 99B, 00A, 00B
• Variability of the Faint Sky at Mid-Galactic Latitudes [WWW]

  • 6 nights in 98B
  • 7 nights in 99A, 99B, 00A
