NGC6946 [ Image ] This is an image of NGC6946 taken with the Wide Field Camera on the Isaac Newton Telescope by Simon Driver (St Andrews) on 12th June 1999 (and this is the image used in the background of these pages).

UGC10214 [ Image ] A false colour picture of the galaxy UGC 10214 (u, g, i filters).

Faint Sky Variability Survey [ Image ] These images, courtesy of Dr. Steve Howell, represent one of the fields observed in the Faint Sky Variability Survey which is one of the Wide Field Survey programmes being carried out at the INT. This image appeared on the front cover of the September 1999 ING Newsletter.

M51 [ Image ] M51 (The Whirlpool Galaxy) is a bright spiral galaxy fairly close to us (7.5 Megaparsecs = 25 million light years). The companion galaxy is being disrupted by the gravitational tidal forces of the main galaxy. (Peter Bunclark IoA)
