  • Photometric calibrations are enabled by a dedicated 20-inch Photometric Telescope (atmospheric extinction, calibration of fainter stars with respect to brighter fundamental standards).
  • Astrometric calibrations are enabled by special CCDs in the focal plane of the 2.5-meter telescope, capable of measuring standard stars in the range 8.3 < r' < 16.5.
  • Data products include: merged 5-band catalogues of image parameters (position, flux, size, profile); "atlas images" (cut-out pixel maps around each detected object); link to spectrum (if available). copied from http://www.sdss.org/science on 1999-09-15 by rgm see also the proposed DSS data release schedule with no data released until the start of 2003 ie over 3 years from the end of 1999.
