The Samba software suite is a collection of programs that implements the SMB protocol for UNIX systems. This protocol is sometimes also referred to as the LanManager or Netbios protocol. SMB, which stands for Server Message Block, is a protocol for sharing files, printers, serial ports, and communications abstractions such as named pipes and mail slots between computers.
