In this case the adding lines iterations terminated because there was no improvement in the normalized chi-squared. A look at the spectrum reveals why -- in the CIV 1550 region the red wing of the complex does not match the CIV 1548 very well. Since both lines are in the Ly-a forest of the quasar, the way to get a good fit would be to add a Ly-a in the red wing of the first region, rather than trying with more and more CIV components.
