The hardware should be installed following the installation guide supplied by Perkin Elmer. Ask an adult to help you with this step.
SoftwareThere is no longer any need to install the supplied PE software first ( although you can ). The self unpacking install.exe file on the floppy contains everything you need.
Run the install.exe file. This will unpack the files into the selected directory.
Run the install.bat file in that directory. This will copy the system files into c:\windows
Select a camera either by typing select n where n is:
- 4 - CIRSI
- 5 - CIRPASS 1K
- 6 - CIRPASS 2K
Or by clicking on one of:
- CIRSI.BAT
- CIRPASS1K.BAT
- CIRPASS2K.BAT
Or by editing the registry directly with regedit and setting the value above in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PerkinElmer Life Sciences\OEMYou can repeat this to change the camera type at any time
Configuration
Most other configuration settings are controlled by the pixcel.ini file. This is a text file and can be modified with any standard editor. For more details see the configuration section.
To install the camera you may have to change two values:
The line PCIDeviceId= must be set for the correct type of PCI card.
Enter PCIDeviceId=0x80b6 if you have an original card, ie:
- It says SPECTRAL INSTRUMENTS INC on the top left of the card
- A small hole is visible below the connector on the back of the computer
Enter PCIDeviceId=0x826e if you have a new card, ie:
- It says PCI Digital Camera Interface on the top left of the card
- No hole is visible below the connector on the back of the computer
Also the line IO_BASE_ADDRESS=336 may have to be changed to IO_BASE_ADDRESS=768 if you changed the jumpers on the ATLINK card.
Extra files required
This software will work on windows95 and windows98. Depending on the other software installed you may get an error about missing files when you first start Pixcel. Copy these files from another machine.
- c:\windows\system\Msvcp60.dll
- c:\windows\system\Msvcrt.dll
