There are a number of complementary datasets in the VEILS fields, which when combined with VEILS, will enable a range of legacy science. We list some of these datasets here:
DES is a 5 year optical survey being carried out using the DECam camera on the Blanco 4-m telescope. The VEILS fields overlap with the DES deep supernova fields. VEILS will provide near infra-red light curves for supernovae detected by DES. In addition, combining the deep optical data in the DES deep fields with the deep near infra-red co-add data from VEILS, will enable the search for high-redshift galaxies and quasars at the Epoch of Reionisation.
VIDEO is one of the first-generation ESO VIRCAM Public Survey projects. It covers a total area of 12 sq-deg to a slightly shallower depth than VEILS (but employing more filters). The VEILS fields have been chosen so as to provide a contiguous area with near infra-red coverage when combined with VIDEO. The VIDEO fields also overlap with the DES deep fields and the combined area of DES+VEILS+VIDEO is therefore 21 sq-deg.
OzDES is a spectroscopic survey of the DES+VIDEO+VEILS deep fields being conducted using the AAOmega spectrograph on the Anglo Australian Telescope. OzDES is providing redshift measurements for a wide range of targets. Spectroscopic confirmation of supernovae with OzDES is relevant to the VEILS supernova science. As well as this, the AGN reverberation mapping project within OzDES is monitoring the variability of AGN broad emission lines and complements the AGN hot dust variability that will be monitored with VEILS.
The Spitzer SERVS and DeepDrill projects will provide mid infra-red data at 3.6 and 4.5um to complement the VEILS near infra-red observations.
