Hi Dave,

   Finally, finally...you'll find a new version of the paper 
at http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~cclarke/. I've tried to correct
the typos, spellings etc, put inmore recent references and
analysed the mode structure a bit. I held back on submitting
the last version because I wanted input from the galaxies
discussion group a few weeks back. actually I didn't get much
on this paper - more useful was the fact that Eve Ostriker
was there and said she is involved in a large observational
programme looking for offsets. She cautioned though that
K band isn't such a good tracer of mass as we had hoped...

 I bet this all seems incredibly distant...

  Btw I've asked Hardip to extend the lifetime of your account
until we get a referee's report.

  Do take a look and If it's okay, I'll submit it early next
