Clues to activity in infrared galaxies and their close environment

Abstract
I will present some of our recent results on the optical spectral
properties of Spitzer 24 micron-selected galaxies and their close
environment at z<1, over 1.5 square degrees of the COSMOS field. I will focus my talk on the aspects of galaxy activity revealed by the optical spectra. I will show that LIRGs inhabit more passive environments than ULIRGs, and that this is not an effect of their stellar mass. I will discuss the possible causes of this effect.
