Talk Summary

It seems like gravitational waves haven't been out of the headlines! Why are astronomers so excited about them, and why are they so important that they get the Nobel Prize within a record two years of the original discovery? And what to make of the latest news released just before the talk?

Carolin will attempt to explain all the above, and also what we've found, why it's presenting challenges to our understanding of black holes, and the prospects for gravitational wave astronomy in the future.
