It's April 1920, and in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, the astronomers Harlow Shapley and Heber Curtis are about to debate the very nature of our Universe. Are all the 'spiral nebulae' contained within our own Galaxy and is that the entirety of the Universe? Or are they distant, and the Milky Way just one among many 'island Universes'.
