Dr Ciro Pinto

Research

I am a researcher associate in the X-ray Group at the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge with Prof. Andy Fabian. My research focuses on the properties of the X-ray emitting gas in clusters of galaxies, the accretion of matter onto black holes and the interaction between jets from supermassive black holes and the surrounding galactic/intergalactic medium (AGN Feedback). My main expertise is the high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of hot gas in different astrophysical environments such as cluster of galaxies, active galactic nuclei and accreting binaries. I obtained my PhD at Radboud University Nijmegen in collaboration with SRON, the Netherlands Institute for Space Research, under the supervision of Frank Verbunt, Jelle Kaastra, and Elisa Costantini. The topic of my thesis was the composition of the interstellar medium in the Galaxy as seen through X-rays. My master thesis with Maurizio Paolillo and Giuseppe Longo at Naples University, Italy, focused on the properties of the X-ray time variability in active galactic nuclei.
