Explore the World in our list of stereographs

Published on 09/07/2013

You can now step back in time to see the world of the early 1900's in stereo 3D.  We have listed the collection of stereo photographs once owned by IoA Librarian, Dr David W. Dewhirst and which are now held in the Institute of Astronomy Library.  The collection includes pictures of famous places, animals and even a view of Queen Victoria's funeral procession!  We have two viewers in the Library Office and you are welcome to come in and see the slides for yourself.  The list was drawn up by Jamie Turner as a project during his work experience at the Institute.  To see the list please click HERE.

The above slide shows the observatory established on the summit of Mont Blanc by astronomer Pierre Janssen in 1893.
