Open Observatory: Saturday 10 September

We are very sorry this event is now fully booked.  Please do not turn up unless you have booked onto a tour.

If you would like to visit the Institute in the future, please note our Public Observing Nights begin on Wednesday 5 October and continue, every Wednesday night up to 21 December.  For more details click here.

Facebook group for Library

We have today created a new group on Facebook the 'Institute of Astronomy Library Appreciation Group' we aim to increase awareness of the work of the Library and increase appreciation of its collections.  Anyone with an interest in the Library (or astronomy in general) is welcome to join: Institute of Astronomy Library Appreciation Group.

Madras Observatory Papers, 1827

We have just scanned onto DSpace the lovely plates from the Madras Observatory Papers of 1827.  The plates show, studies of astronomers working with a pendulum experiment at the observatory, a map of Madras, and topographic views and charts of where the equator crosses the coast of Sumatra.  The binding of the book is in poor condition and we hope to have it repaired soon.  The plates can be seen at DSpace

Changes to University Library borrowing regulations for University Staff

The General Board on the recommendation of the Library Syndicate have
approved a change to the regulations for the use of the University Library
to extend borrowing to all University staff. From 1 August 2011, all staff
employed by the University of Cambridge will now be eligible to borrow ten

Open Cambridge - Open Observatory Saturday 10 September 2011

The Library, Observatory building, and historic telescopes will be open to the public as part of the popular Open Cambridge programme.  The Observatory will be open for two hour-long tours on Saturday 10th September 2011 at 2.30 and 3.30pm (booking required).  Find out more at http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/opencambridge/
