New Books for January

These new books will be on display in the Hoyle building library area for the month of January, you can reserve books from the display by using the clipboard underneath - the books will then be loaned to you at the start of February.

The following new books will be placed on display in the Hoyle Building library area for the month of December.  There is a clipboard underneath the display where you can reserve books for when they come off the display.

David Dewhirst offprints

We have in the Library Office a supply of offprints of the following articles, which we will be happy to provide free of charge to anyone who would like them:

David W. Dewhirst (1926-2012)

David W. Dewhirst (1926-2012) was an astronomer and librarian at the Cambridge Observatories and the Institute of Astronomy from 1950 to retirement in 1993.  He was also a Gresham Professor of Astronomy and Chairman of the RAS Library for many years.

Open Cambridge: Open Observatory Report

We opened the historic (Grade 2 listed) Cambridge Observatory building to the public on Friday the 7th of September from 4-6pm.  Our 'Open Observatory' event was part of the wider Open Cambridge weekend where buildings normally closed to the public open up for visitors.

We received about 40 visitors in total, and judging from the responses we had, they enjoyed their vist.  As well as the classical architecture of the Observatory building of 1823.  Visitors could view the Northumberland telescope of 1838 and a display of old books from the Library.

Open Cambridge: Open Observatory event

As part of this years Open Cambridge, the historic Cambridge Observatory building will be open to the public.  Visitors will be able to see a library display of old astronomical books, as well as the observatories historic telescopes.  The Open Observatory event is 16.00-18.00 7th September 2012.  For more details CLICK HERE
