Final registrations are now accepted at
http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/meetings/starburst2004/
(from 27 May until and including 30 June 2004)
=> Actions are required from everyone planning to attend <=
NO REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 30 JUNE!
Dear prospective conference participant,
September is drawing nearer, and the organisation of the conference on
"Starbursts -- from 30 Doradus to Lyman Break Galaxies", to be held in
Cambridge (UK) from 6-10 September 2004, is making good progress.
The preliminary programme has now been established, with review, invited
and contributed speakers having been notified of the SOC decisions. We
will be making the preliminary programme available on the conference web
site in the near future. Watch this space!
At the time of writing, we have already received close to 280
preliminary registration requests, of which some 60 per cent indicated
that their attendance is "definite". Unfortunately, this exceeds the
capacity of the lecture theatre at the University of Cambridge's
Institute of Astronomy by more than 100 seats, if everyone of you were
to come.
At this point, we solicit your *final* registrations. From 27 May 2004,
you can use the "final registration form" linked from
http://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/meetings/starburst2004 for this purpose.
Everyone, invited and review speakers inclusive, must submit their final
registration to us, for practical reasons.
In practice, this means that:
(i) if you are a REVIEW, INVITED, or *confirmed* CONTRIBUTED SPEAKER,
and you would like us to arrange accommodation for you, you can
submit an accommodation request. Accommodation is limited, so be
sure to register early!
ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS WILL BE DEALT WITH ON A FIRST COME (and pay)
FIRST SERVED BASIS.
You will also need to submit your payment of the basic conference
fee (60 pounds sterling), and - if applicable - for the conference
dinner (40 pounds sterling; except review and invited speakers) and
the conference proceedings (35 pounds sterling) at this time. The
proceedings will include all talks in book form, while the poster
contributions will be added on CD-ROM.
We accept cheques drawn on a British bank, in pounds sterling, or
personal cheques in US dollars or in Euros. For US dollar payments,
we will use an exchange rate of GBP 1.00 = US$ 1.90; for payments in
Euros, we will charge GBP 1.00 = EURO 1.60. Cheques should be made
payable to "University of Cambridge". Please send your cheques by
regular mail to:
Institute of Astronomy
University of Cambridge
c/o Suzanne Howard
Madingley Road
Cambridge CB3 0HA
UK
We also accept Visa or MasterCard credit and debit card payments and
purchase orders from your university. In this case, please submit
the form electronically, and FAX a printed copy including your
credit/debit card details or purchase order to:
+44 - 1223 - 337523 or
+44 - 1223 - 339910 (confidential fax)
(ii) if you were not selected for a contributed talk, intended to
present a POSTER all along, or perhaps NOTHING at all, this is the
time that you will need to register and submit your registration fee
payment (and, if applicable, also your payment for the conference
dinner and the proceedings). And again, if we need to book
accommodation for you, we will need to know this as soon as possible
as well, as also in this case
REGISTRATION AND ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS WILL BE DEALT WITH ON A
FIRST COME (and pay) FIRST SERVED BASIS.
Accommodation is limited, so be sure to register early!
For payment details, see under (i) above. Remember, we are heavily
oversubscribed, so that we recommend you to register early, in order
to secure your place. Places will be reserved until the meeting's
capacity is reached, after which we will operate a waiting list
system, if needed.
In both cases, your registration and accommodation will be final only
after your payment details have been received and cleared.
=> In all cases, the payment deadline is 30 June 2004 <=
Please let us know if you have any questions, or need more practical
information. If your name includes non-standard (US/UK keyboard)
characters, please indicate them as latex code on the registration form,
or use the comments box at the bottom of the form to let us know (so
that we can give you a properly spelled conference badge).
We hope to see many of you in Cambridge in September!
On behalf of the LOC,
Richard de Grijs
(Chair)
