MCG -6-30-15: The (X-ray) Dirt on Dust

We present results on the MCG -6-30-15 warm absorber as determined from our analysis of the 6-day Chandra HETGS long observation, using two independent methods: (1) a plasma diagnostic approach similar to that employed in UV and optical work, and (2) analytic modeling of the photoionized plasma using the photoionization code XSTAR. The MCG -6-30-15 ionized absorber will be discussed in the context of location, possible wind scenarios, and relevance to broad iron line diagnostics. A brief discussion relevant to the spectral diagnostics of intervening material and X-ray probes of dust composition will also be presented in the context of MCG -6-30-15, other AGN, and X-ray binaries.
