The Galactic Plane in Rio : Proceedings
Dear Contributor to IAU Specialist Session 8,
Here are some details concerning the proceedings for the Specialist Session. Given the page limit of 60 pages for the proceedings as a whole each of the 46 contributing speakers, whether for a 20 minute or 15 minute talk, will get 1 page in which to summarise their work. Please see the author's instructions in the attached file. The latex .cls file and other information can be downloaded from: www.iau.org/static/scientific_meetings/authors_proceedings/
NOTE: the initial submission deadline for the 1 page contribution is 14 August - ie. by the end of the conference. There will be scope for corrections after that but these will simply be that - corrections to the original submission received. Also attached is a copy of the IAU copyright form - please fill this out, sign and hand to me at the conference.
Abstracts of the poster contributions will also be included in the proceedings. These will use the abstracts submitted to the IAU GA unless I receive an updated version which can be no longer than half a page, again by 14 August.
All contributors should also note the instructions at: http://www.astronomy2009.com.br/instrpres.html in particular the need to upload your talks beforehand.

The Proceedings will be edited by Janet Drew, Melvin Hoare (Editor in Chief) and Nicholas Walton and appear in special volume HIGHLIGHTS OF ASTRONOMY Volume 15 (CUP).
We will invite all speakers to provide a written record of their presentation. Full details of page length and instructions for preparing and submitting the paper will appear here in due course.
For poster presentations the editors will include the abstract to the poster in the proceedings. (revisions to the abstract published in the conference abstract book are welcome).
As part of this we encourage all speakers to provide an electronic copy of their to talk to the session organisers - this will appear on this SPS8 web site and a link will be provided to this in the published proceedings.
